Common forms of entry are as follows

Lock snapping
Lock snapping is a burglary technique which involves snapping a particular type of lock cylinder in two by applying the right amount of force and removing the outside part to expose the locking mechanism

Damage to uPvc doors using a blowtorch

The use of blowtorches to break into homes can cause enough damage to snap or bend the lock, or remove it entirely.

Police say locks that conform to British standards should be able to withstand a blowtorch attack, although many older locks do not conform.

Locks such as TS 007 (one star or three star) and SS312 (Sold Secure Diamond Standard for lock cylinders) both meet this standard.

Homeowners are now also being urged to install “sash jammers” on their doors and windows to help avoid potential burglaries.

Sash jammer’s handles pivot and are secured over the uPVC door’s frame, offering resistance to deter forced entry.

It is important to make sure that your lock is offering the most protection for your property.

Anyone buying a new lock should ensure it has earned either a Three Star TS007 rating or a SS312 rating. There are some locks which have earned both of these.
